Meeting Minutes: January 16, 2014

Attendance:

Dorothy Derksen (Chair), Dale Watts ( Vice Chair), Mary Hayes (Secretary), Don Carlson, John Reimers, Donald Kolaski, Steven Lipischak, Ron Blicq, Elena Grinshteyn, Taylor Sul.

Meeting Attendees enjoyed coffee and socializing at 9:30. Bad weather kept attendance down.

Guest speaker was Jerry Grey. In 2005 redevelopment began on Upper Fort Garry.  He gave a great presentation on the Fort, starting with a short video based on its history.A PowerPoint presentation  included pictures from the past, present and future of what the Friends of Upper Fort Garry hope to accomplish with the remains and the historical site. He stated that people are donating items that represent Upper Fort Garry in some way, whether it’s a novelty item or a historical item.

Financial Report

The Endowment Fund stands at $77,163 and the non-endowed at $5,956.

OTHER BUSINESS

May Wind-up

Ron Blicq suggested a trip to the Western Canada Aviation Museum.  Pam MacKenzie would be a guest speaker.  The entry fee of $5 includes a tour.  Two demos are available:  Cold Weather Flying or Historical Aviation Pilots.  There is a cafeteria there and it is possible to have lunch catered.

Jana Thorsteinson, Alumni Relations Coordinator

John Reimers gave a brief summary on his retirement. He still has his catering business as well as a consulting business, but he enjoys doing it so doesn’t consider it work! He loves traveling and hopes to go back to Europe. He loves spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He is in his second year of retirement.
