HERITAGE GROUP MEETING

ATTENDANCE: Leslie Walsh, Chair, Mary Hayes, Secretary, Pat Fraser, Don Carlson, Bob Vinet, Jack Kaplan, John de Klyver, Arnold Kolaski, Glenn Baldwin, John Reimers, Don Kennedy, Margaret Riffell, Rose Marie Hess, Lorie Siebrand, Sherry Ripak, Rose-Marie Floch, Dorothy Derksen Gail Shimonek, Karen Wall, Elena Grinshteyn.
Meeting attendees enjoyed coffee and socializing at 9:30.
Guest Speaker was Mae Louise Campbell who spoke on the topic of Indigenous Women. The presentation was extremely interesting and informative.
WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER
Chair called the meeting to order at 11:20 after a short coffee break.

BUSINESS ARISING
The Chair presented a tentative list of speakers for next year (2017-18) including College President Paul Vogt. Topics include Immigration/Refugees in Winnipeg; Refugee Crisis (RRC Sponsorship); Build a Village; Fair Trade.
Leslie asked anyone who knows speakers to contact them and to introduce them at the meeting. Elena, Gail, and Karen volunteered.
- Financial Report (Elena) The Endowed Fund stands at $107,524. This year $6,220 was raised and we exceeded our matching dollars for November. Government rules apply to all educational institutions.
- Each dollar donated will be matched by 50 cents. It was noted that awards to international students will not be matched. Heritage Group Awards (Mary Hayes) There were eight students selected this year for an award of $750 each, totaling $6,000. Students were chosen from Business Administration, Civil Engineering Technology, Nursing, Community Development, and Med Lab Science.
- Social Committee (Karen) St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon to be held Thursday, March 16 11:30 a.m. at the Riverwood Square Retirement Living, 1776 Pembina Hwy. The Heritage Group Wind-Up will be held this year at Fort Whyte Centre. The will be a presentation “Step Back in Time” and lunch. Tickets cost $25 .
NEW BUSINESS
Leslie reminded members to send stories; information on members, etc., to Guy Dugas sat guy.dugas@gmail.com.
It was decided to send Guy a formal thank you for all his hard work on the newsletter, even though he now lives in Vancouver.
