Motion to Alumni – a key issue is that we need to strengthen up the Alumni membership, as well as get the Alumni dinner up and running again for the future. The RRC alumni has many prominent people and there should be more engagement with many of these individuals. Dorothy and Leslie will be sending out a letter with these points to the new Alumni Engagement coordinator, Katrina Sklepowich, and cc’d to Darin Brecht, Interim President of RRC, and the Board of Governors.
Revisions to Constitution– More revisions were suggested by members. Leslie will do the revisions. The constitution will be presented with the revisions for approval at the AGM in April.
Social Committee (Karen Wall)
Thank you to everyone who attended the November 21st luncheon at the race track. Our next outing will be at the Feast Bistro on Thursday, March 19th, 2020. The restaurant is located at Ellice and Sherbrook and no tickets for the event are being sold. Members will pay individually for their lunch at the restaurant. Information on this will be sent out so please RSVP and let Karen know if you are attending. Upcoming – in May 2020, we will be visiting a Hutterite colony with more details to follow.
Dorothy Derksen noticed that in her recent teacher’s magazine (KIT,) she was amazed at how many people in their 60’s and 70’s began their careers teaching K to 12. It also showed how they also ended up teaching at Red River College after they taught K to 12.
Gord Mackie talked about Richard Johns who was an instructor at RRC, and had an interesting career, as a machine worker in the Winnipeg Strike. You can also find more information about him at Urban Gallery at the Manitoba Museum.
Howard Engel mentioned Marshall McLuhan’s Citizens Hall of Fame Inductee Reception held in November, 2019.
ADJOURNMENT: (Ray Newman)
Minutes taken by Linda Caldwell.
