HERITAGE GROUP MEETING

Meeting attendees enjoyed coffee and socializing at 9:30.

Guest Speaker was James Favel, Executive Director of the Bear Clan Patrol. Elaine stated that donations can be made to Oyate Tipi at 606 Selkirk Ave. They will take furniture and other household articles. They do not take clothes.

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

Chair called the meeting to order at 11:32 p.m. after a short coffee break.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA (Glen Baldwin, Allison Cowell)

Corrections to the agenda were: “Britz”, changed to Beitz, “enoyed” changed to enjoyed.

ADOPTION OF MINUTES (Gail Shimonek, Karen Wall)

BUSINESS ARISING

Heritage Group Brochure: Karen and Leslie will write up something and then use RRC facilities to do the brochure. The Heritage Group scholarship donation form will be incorporated into the brochure.

Speakers: Dorothy mentioned that Wilma Doerksen and Dan Lett from the Free Press had been previous speakers. Group decided they would be future speakers. Wilma has written a new book and Dan Lett would speak on the future of the media (newspapers). Pat Fraser suggested Michael Champagne (Meet me at the Bell Tower) as a future speaker as well. Leslie will compile a list of future speakers to be presented at a later meeting for the group to prioritize. Louis asked about a tour of the new RRC building. Discussion followed. Elena stated that the building is still under construction and that all Heritage Group members will get a formal invite for the opening.

REPORTS

Financial: Elena reported that the group has contributed $3,112.00 not including the donations made at this meeting. The report was included in the handouts for the meeting.
Dale suggested the Heritage Group do a separate donation to organizations like the Bear Clan as a possibility. Discussion followed. Decided that members could make individual donations if they want and the information on where to send the donation will be included in the minutes of the meeting.

Social Committee: Karen reported details on the Christmas luncheon. A poster was handed out. The price is $35. Karen sold tickets at the meeting and after the meeting members can get tickets from Elena.

Karen stated that most of the door prizes have been coming out of the Social Committee’s pockets. Members were asked to donate prizes if they want more prizes.

Karen provided information on a cash bar at the Christmas luncheon. Discussion followed and it was decided that no one wanted a cash bar.
