Meeting Minutes: October 20, 2016

Attendance:

Meeting attendees enjoyed coffee and socializing at 9:30.

Guest Speaker was Gordon Crossley, who gave an excellent presentation on A Day in the Life of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The Group heard about the soldiers in the trenches in World War I with accompanying slides and artifacts.

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER

Chair called the meeting to order at 11:20 p.m. after the speaker and a coffee break.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA

The Agenda was amended to include the Blog. It was further decided that the Financial Report and the Social Committee Report should stand as separate items rather than under Business Arising. (Sheri Ripak, John Graeb)

BUSINESS ARISING

Financial Report

Elena reported that the Endowment Fund stands at $95,253 and the non-Endowed at $2,389 as of June. To date $3795 in donations have been received.

Social Committee

Gail Shimonek gave the report for the Chairman,Karen Wall. The Group met on September 29 and have planned a Christmas Luncheon rather than a dinner for this year. The Luncheon will be held in the Prairie Lights at the Notre Dame Campus on November 17 at 1 p.m. Price is $30 per person and includes a chance to win a door prize. Details of the menu are in the September newsletter and in the Blog. Members are encouraged to bring friends and family. College employees are also welcome to attend. Please RSVP before November 10 to Elena at egrinshteyn@rrc.ca.

Another luncheon on March 16/17 is being planned for St. Patrick’s Day.

Fort Whyte Alive is being considered for the Wind-Up on May 18/17. Ideas for the 2017 Windup should be emailed to Karen Wall at kwall@mymts.net.

NEW BUSINESS

Arie Levi will be speaking to the Heritage Group on April 20 on the topic “From Israel to IT in Winnipeg.”

Heritage Group Blog (rrc.hg.ca) Guy Dugas continues to do the Heritage Group Blog and the newsletter. He needs articles and information. Anyone with a good story or information that would interest members is encouraged to contact Elena at egrinshteyn@rrc.ca.

Guy informed us that donations to the Heritage Group by anyone registered may be made on the Blog.
